First impressions of a home are generally visual, and hard to forget. Basic cleaning is essential to a positive perception of a home, along with attending to minor repairs. Common things we overlook, such as a leaky faucet, sticking door or a minor roof leak create a 'red flag' in the mind of the buyer, who my wonder what problems might lie below the surface. Although none of these may be serious, any one can eliminate the home from further consideration. As homeowners, we all have special 'treasures' placed throughout our homes, but when these items essentially 'clutter' the space, the buyer often does not see the true potential of the dwelling. A buyer needs to be able to emotionally place himself/herself in the home - along with their furnishings. Too often, we cannot see the carpet or the walls beyond the clutter. Perhaps it is time to have that overdue garage sale. Finally, curb appeal is essential. You want them to get out of the car, eager to see your home. Fresh paint and stain create an invitation to see the inside as well. Clutter and debris stacked up in a yard is unsightly and a distraction. No one wants to buy a neglected home.
